Frequently Asked Questions

What login methods does Dive Converter support for Oceanic+?

Dive Converter supports only logins via email/password. Sign in with Apple is not supported for Oceanic+ as it is technically not possible to use Sign in with Apple to login for a 3rd party application as the login is bound to the app’s ID.

Is it possible to migrate dives from a Sign in with Apple Oceanic+ account to an email/password account?

The easiest way is to reset your password for your AppleID based account. This is equivalent to migrating your AppleID based account to an email/password based account for Oceanic+.

What Dive Logbook Apps have been tested with the UDDF that Dive Converter exports?

The following apps have been tested successfully:

In general, every dive log program that supports UDDF import, should work. Best support that we have tested so far is by MacDive and Dive Log. It depends very much on how compliant an app is in respect to the UDDF standard which elements of the UDDF file will get imported.

What Dive Logbook Apps have been tested with the UDDF that Dive Converter import?

DiveConverter 3rd party UDDF import has been tested successfully with the following apps:

Please create a backup before you start importing 3rd party UDDF files. The best practice is to create a second Oceanic+ account and to test the import there first. If everything runs smoothly, you can import then the same file into your main account.

What should I think about when converting DataTrak logbooks?

During conversion of DataTrak logbooks DiveConverter performs a geocoding using Apple’s geocoding API to get a geolocation from the dive’s location. Thus, if you choose a meaningful mappable location in DataTrak for your dives, the geocoding will work. Ideally you test in Apple Maps if Apple can find your dive’s location. I usually enter the name of an island/town followed by related country, e.g. Ziyaraifushi, Maldives. As a result, the UDDF file will contain an address, a GPS position, and the correct timezone for the dive site.

For the buddies, use a comma separated list of your buddies. If you put something in parentheses after the buddy, it will be stored in the buddy’s notes in UDDF, e.g Andreas (#123456) in case you want to store the certification number together with the buddy.

Why does the export, conversion, backup to UDDF take so long?

DiveConverter performs geocoding with Apple’s geocoding capabilities. However, if you have more than 50 dives, Apple will throttle the geocoding as they only allow 50 requests per minutes. Therefore, if you have more than 50 dives, you will see that the export, conversion, beckup in UDDF format will take a while.
